Students at Maryland Elementary School in Phoenix are celebrating National Farm to School Month for the month of October. Members of the Eco-Schools Garden Club are sharing fun facts about Farm to School Programs during morning announcements. They also challenged the school to a ‘pumpkin-tacular’ pumpkin seed estimating contest.
We have two pumpkins provided by our Master Gardener community partners. The students have named them Bob and Stuart! Classes have until the end of the month to submit their estimates for how many seeds they think are in each pumpkin. Then, the Eco-Schools Garden Club students get the fun job of getting their hands dirty and counting the seeds. The classes with the closest estimate for each pumpkin will get a fun, healthy snack – roasted pumpkin seeds & pumpkin bread!
